Miami Restaurant Review: Barton G
A few weeks ago, I spent a long weekend with my friends in Miami. We were there celebrating my friend Lauren's 23rd birthday. It was honestly one of the best times I've had in a while and it was so nice to spend time with my friends. We ended our weekend with one of the most amazing dinners I've ever experienced. This all took place at a restaurant called Barton G.
Let me start off with the decor. Within seconds of walking into Barton G, I was in absolute awe. This restaurant is beautiful. There were realflowers hanging in glass tubes from floor to ceiling connected by black, metal chain. Above the bar were huge lighting pieces that are honestly indescribable. The host brought us outside and lead us to our table...in a jungle. Oh my goodness. It was a jungle lit up by hidden lights in the trees and candles on each table.
We sat down and instead of each person getting a menu, the host whips out these plexiglass boards mounted with iPads. Yes, that's right. Barton G's menu is an iPad. Since there were 6 of us, we got three menus for the table. Not every person can get their own because it was so big. I began scrolling through this menu and I realized I was in for a real treat.
Barton G is not an ordinary restaurant. It's honestly hard for me to even describe. It's one of those things you need to experience to get the full effect but I will try my best. Our waiter, Ze, was absolutely hilarious and amazing. He explained the concept to us and began telling us about the cocktails. Barton G doesn't use ice to keep their drinks cool because the ice eventually waters down the drink. Instead, each drink comes with a nitrogen-froze popsicle that is made up of liquor. So as your popsicle melts, the stronger your drink becomes. These cocktails are presented with smoke from the nitrogen in crazy glasses.
For dinner, I ordered the filet mignon that came with a side of garlic-cheddar mashed potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower. I have never, ever seen presentation of food like this before in my life. Each entree got brought out separately because the dishes were that complex. For example, two of my friends got salmon which was presented with a pot of wheat grass, a brown paper bag of french fries and their fish. Another friend got chicken which had an over sized bottle of ketchup. Mine came with a cow on a metal slab with a lamp shining on the filet mignon. It was so yummy.
For dessert, of course we didn't get menus...we got iPods. Barton G is known for their dessert. Lauren, the birthday girl, wanted to surprise us with her dessert choices so we impatiently waited for them to come out. Our waiter came over to us and told us we would be eating our dessert in a secluded, cozy lounge area. A little after settling into our spot, out came these two massive desserts. One was a huge cotton candy served with chocolate and yogurt covered pretzels and dipped popcorn. The other was a s'mores marshmallow cake served with homemade graham crackers and chocolate bars. I was in heaven. Needless to say, we devoured these desserts in a matter of minutes. After that, I was in a food coma.
Barton G was truly a foodie's heaven. It was incredible. If you are ever in Miami and want an experience and great food, I highly recommend going to Barton G. You will definitely not regret it, and prepare to be amazed.
