Joplin Tornado Keepsakes Turned into Art Exhibit

(Joplin, MO) -- A center for the arts is making art out of items left in the Joplin tornado's path.?
Spiva Center for the Arts workers are asking to borrow meaningful keepsakes from the Joplin tornado -- small enough to fit in a shoe box.

The exhibit will combine the items with a video of owners like Brenda and Lee Morris sharing their experience.

The Morris family found a family bible in the rubble. They say the find gives them hope.

"I think those stories and these artifacts are going to be very important a year from now to recall those moments and the intensity of coming across and finding those very special items," says Jo Mueller with Spiva Center for the Arts.

The goal is that the exhibit will help explain how the tornado has affected Joplin on a personal level.

The Spiva Shoe Box Project will open May 19, 2012, in time for the first anniversary of the tornado.
