Yani Tseng leads in Canada

COQUITLAM, British Columbia, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Yani Tseng, trying to break out of a recent slump, shot a 6-under 66 Thursday that gave her a one-shot lead at the Canadian Women's Open.

Tseng won three times early in the season, but went through a five-tournament stretch during the summer in which she finished no better than 50th and missed the cut three times.

She showed signs of regaining her form last week when she wound up 11th at the Safeway Classic and looked like her old self Thursday at the Vancouver Golf Club.

Her low round was put together despite a double-bogey at the par-4 first hole, her 10th of the day.

U.S. Women's Open champion Na Yeon Choi was alone in second at 67 while Inbee Park and amateur Lydia Ko shared third at 68.

Moira Dunn, Mindy Kim, Jee Young Lee and Angela Stanford were all at 69. Rookie Sydnee Michaels, who shot the low round of her career last week while posting her first Top 10 finish, backed up that showing by shooting a 70 to tie for ninth place after the opening round.
