First Science Buddies! | Alice King Community School

Hi,

I?m assigning the first Science Buddies activity this week. ?These are monthly science activities that are done completely at home with the student and an adult such as a parent, grandparent, relative or family friend (but not other children please). ?Each worksheet sent home will list the needed materials which are usually household items. ?Each activity comes with several ?Talk It Over? questions for you to discuss with your student. ?We will also discuss these in class the day the activity is due.

I usually give 2 weeks for the activity to be completed though the actual amount of time needed is very short. ?The activities are graded based on the lab report that gets completed with every activity. ?I will say, the best reports are those who put detailed responses in their reports and the very best provided timelines and even pictures of the changes that occurred during the activities.

The first activity is called ?Weathering & Erosion Walk? and is designed to be an exercise in observing and gathering information. ?This activity will be due October 3rd so you have 2 weekends to complete.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Originally from St. Louis, MO, I moved to Albuquerque in 1995 where I graduated from UNM with a degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing and a film studies minor. I did my teaching graduate studies at Western Governors University. I love the 4/5 grade level! I enjoy the journey that we all take in my classroom. This book by Louis Sachar is our current read-a-loud book in class! It is a great book about making friends, not bullying, doing your best in school, and how to succeed.
