Melanoma or skin cancer, a lethal form of cancer, continues to affect a large number of people across the globe, including developed countries such as Europe, China as well as the Middle East. However, most of the disease incidents are curable through surgery.
Consequently, a recent research is expected to play a key role in the treatment of patients in advanced stages of aggressive skin cancer. Experts in Australia are looking forward to expose the genetic causes of the deadly cancer as an attempt to address a critical situation in Australia, observing highly increased melanoma cases as compared to rest of the world.
The country accounts for more than 100,000 new cases as well as 1,200 melanoma related deaths, every year. The hike has pushed the researchers to identify the genetic reason that triggers the cancer growth.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Melanoma Institute of Australia, Graham Mann, notified that experts are enthusiastic to track the DNA attributes. He said: "The technology is there now for us to do this that is basically genome sequencing technology - same as for the human genome project?.
Simultaneously, an oncologist at the Melanoma Institute, Dr. Georgina, expressed confidence that measures targeting genetic mutations will surely decline the number of skin cancer cases.
