England name ODI and T20 squads for New Zealand tour ? Cricket News Update ? Part II
Continued from Part I...
England?s 14-man T20 squad named for the New Zealand trip shows two changes from the side that drew two-match series against India this week. Regular skipper Stuart Broad returns to the side to take the reins back from Eoin Morgan, after having recovered from the heel injury. Gangling Middlesex pace bowler Steve Finn has also been recalled after missing the India series due to a back injury.
Jonny Bairstow, who left the T20 series against India early due to some family reasons, has also been named in the touring party for the New Zealand series.
The Poms are also scheduled to play two warm up matches against a New Zealand XI at Cobham Oval (New), Whangarei, ahead of the three-match T20I series, commencing in Auckland on February 9, 2013. The three T20s will be followed by an equal number of ODIs in Hamilton (February 17), Napier (February 20) and Auckland (February 23).
Geoff Miller, England's national selector, said, "Following on from the ODI tour to India, the tour to New Zealand will require players to adapt to different conditions and will prove a real challenge for the squad as we look to continue the progress we have made in limited-overs cricket recently."?
"There are a number of players who we have decided not to select for parts of the competitive programme this winter as we look to manage their workloads effectively while ensuring we remain competitive across all formats. We feel this is the best way of keeping players as physically and mentally fresh as possible during a demanding 2013 and beyond," he added further.
The ECB selectors have also named England?Lions' squad for the five-match one-day series against Australia A early next year. Yorkshire batsman Joe Root, who made his England Test debut earlier this month against India, will captain in the Lions.
