Nassau County Works To Help Find Homes For Sandy Pets ? CBS ...

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - With pets still in need of a permanent home after superstorm Sandy, Nassau County is putting out a call for help.

Sandy destroyed or damaged many people?s homes and forced them to turn their pets over to a shelter.

?A lot of these people live in Long Beach or Island Park or Oceanside. They don?t have anything,? said shelter volunteer Tracy Rahvers.

?Not only are they paying a monthly mortgage. Now they have to find a place where they have to pay rent. So, now they have that and they?re still trying to figure out how they?re going to have the means to take care of themselves and/or children and also their pet,? she told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
