On the Eve of Skyfall, The Homes of the James Bonds - Celebrity ...

Thursday, November 8, 2012, by Rob Bear

The latest edition of the James Bond franchise, Skyfall, arrives on American shores tomorrow, on a wave of international acclaim. While the same can't be said for every entry in the series, the men who play Bond have gone on to lives of fame and riches, even if their film legacy consists of a string of wildly popular B movies. The chiseled Daniel Craig is only on his third film in the series but has already amassed a $50M fortune and hasn't been shy about spending it. The Skyfall star has been coy about a recent Manhattan house hunt with his wife, the actress Rachel Weisz. After checking out several high-priced pads?and even being rumored to have gone into contract on a SoHo penthouse for $11.5M?Craig either decided not to buy a new place in the city, or has done so exceedingly quietly. Above is the penthouse bachelor pad in Tribeca that a single Craig bought in 2010 for around $1.9M.

? Long regarded as the greatest Bond ever, Sean Connery has been living the high life ever since Dr. No debuted in 1962. He went on to star in critic's favorite Goldfinger and five more, before finally hanging up his tux in 1983. Since 1998, Connery has been spending most of his time in the exclusive gated community on Lyford Cay, in the Bahamas. His home, one of the more modest in this high-priced enclave, is known as "The Pool House." Sitting adjacent to the Lyford Cay Golf Club's eighth hole, it can be rented when Connery is not in residence for $3,000 per night. That rental rate includes daily housekeeping, use of two golf carts, and four bedrooms.

? With Connery on hiatus, the little-known George Lazenby stepped in as Bond for 1969's On Her Majesty's Secret Service. That film was set in the snowy Alps, but Lazenby chose much warmer digs for his current home. Nestled in dense trees just downhill from the Getty Center in the Brentwood of Los Angeles, the contemporary sprawler is joined on the property by a walled and lit tennis court, not a surprise considering Lazenby was formerly married to tennis star Pam Shriver.

? In 1973, Roger Moore took over for a seven-film run that saw him go from dashing in Live and Let Die to damn near decrepit in 1985's A View to a Kill. The model-turned-actor made more than $90M over the course of his career and plunged some of that fortune into this low-slung Spanish-style home, just off of Mulholland Drive in Beverly Hills. The four-bedroom, four-bath home was purchased in 1996, measures 3,600 square feet, and also has a tennis court in the rear yard.

? Bond returned in 1987 with the classically-trained Timothy Dalton as the star. He lasted only two films before the series went on a long hiatus due to legal wrangling. Dalton splits time between Los Angeles?where his son with later Mel Gibson paramour Oksana Grigorieva lives?and his native England, but also keeps a vacation home on the Caribbean island of Antigua. Located on the grounds of the luxe St. James's Club, the villa is difficult to pinpoint, but is probably similar to the $995K number above.

? Daniel Craig's predecessor, Pierce Brosnan, was paid handsomely for his performances as Bond, but also managed to expand his career during the Bond years, bringing his net worth to an estimated $80M. Brosnan has kept a home in Malibu, Calif. for years, but recently constructed an absurdly large, but somehow "environmentally friendly" mansion on the beach. In order to help pay for the elaborate estate, he's put it up for rent during the summer months for a whopping $250K per month. The four-bed, 12-bath home has a litany of features, including "three master suites, well-appointed his and hers dressing rooms, gourmet kitchen, large saltwater swimming pool, indoor Japanese spa with soaking tub, infrared or traditional sauna, steam room, cold plunge, a full size gym, private screening room with bar, music room, library, separate guesthouse and pool cabana."
